Gela is one of the oldest cities in Sicily and one of the most important archaeological sites in the Mediterranean.
Its historic centre is full of monuments and evidence of what was once one of the most influential polis of Magna Graecia, as well as splendid buildings to admire. Don't miss a visit to the Villa Comunale Garibaldi, from whose panoramic lookout point you can admire the evocative blue expanse of the Mediterranean Sea.
Also worth a visit is the Archaeological Museum, in which the history of ancient Gela and the surrounding territory is retraced through ceramic, bronze and numismatic finds. It contains about 4,200 artefacts chronologically distributed from prehistory to the Middle Ages.
